Week 2: Finish Those UFQs 2021

It’s been 1 week since we started the Finish Those UFQs 2021 challenge! Did you download the FREE Quilt Project tracker? Did you write a list of all the quilts you want to finish? Did you make any progress on your list?

You can download the tracker here if you haven’t yet:

LAST WEEK

My goal last week was to finish hand sewing the binding on my KaBam Quilt. I had started making this quilt in March 2020. Once the top was finished, I got sidetracked with new quilt projects. Then I was trying to finish it during the 2020 Finish Those UFQs challenge….but I got side tracked when the Joyful Meadows quilt along got started and never finished sewing the binding on. I’m happy to say I finally finished this one! Yay!!

THIS WEEKS GOAL

My goal is to baste and quilt my baby size Plaid’N Perky Quilt. I think this one would look good with straight line, top to bottom quilting. This is how I quilted my throw size. This will go pretty quick, so maybe I’ll be able to start working on the binding also.

HOW TO JOIN

Finish Those UFQs: Spring and Summer Edition!

I have been thinking about what I should work on next. I just finished releasing my Plaid’N Perky Quilt Pattern. I had thought about doing another quilt along in the group, but my kids are staying home and doing remote learning for the rest of this school year. I decided I don’t think I will have the time or energy to host a quilt along.

I really want to be productive this Spring and Summer. So I thought to motivate me and motivate you, we could do an early ‘Finish those UFQs’ Spring Summer edition! I usually do one of these in November. But I thought it may be fun to do it early this year.

I’m sure I’m not the only one needing to work on some older projects! So, download the FREE Project tracker and join in the fun of finishing some quilts! If you still have your project tracker from the last Finish Those UFQs, you can keep working on that. Or you can download this new one that now has a spot for ‘Backing Ready’.

HOW TO JOIN

  • Print the project tracker
  • List all of your unfinished quilts on the project tracker
  • post your weekly progress in the Facebook Group or on Instagram with the hashtag #FinishThoseUFQs2021

Each week I’ll share a blog post and jump on a LIVE video in the group to share my progress with you and chat!

I’m excited to see how much progress we can make!!
Happy Quilting!

Finish Those UFQs 2021 Challenge schedule:
April 27th – Week 1 – Write out your list
May 4th – Week 2
May 11th – Week 3
May 18th – Week 4
May 25th – Week 5

June 8th – Week 7
June 15th – Week 8
June 22nd – Week 9
June 29th – Week 10

Here is my list so for now, from oldest to newest! I’m still debating which one I will work on first.

  1. Stepping Stone Quilt – I made 4 of the baby size quilts and plan on sewing them together. This was supposed to be a family snuggle quilt for the couch. So I put Cloud fabric and Snow fabric in it. It also needs to be basted, quilted and bound

2. Throw size Colorful Tiles quilt – needs to be basted, quilted and bound

3. Throw Size KaBam Quilt– this one is so close to being done. Just need to finish hand stitching the binding on.

4. Throw size Starlight Mountains Quilt – This needs to be basted, quilted and bound.

5. Baby size Joyful Meadows Quilt – this needs to be basted, quilted and bound.

6. Baby size Plaid’N Perky quilt – this needs to be basted, quilted and bound.

Finish Those UFQs 2020 – Week 7

Good Morning it’s WEEK 7 of our Finish Those UFQs 2020 challenge!! We only have a few more weeks left in this year, it sure has gone by fast. I’m hoping to chip away at my list some more so I can make room for some new projects in the new year!

If you haven’t downloaded the FREE Quilt Project tracker, here it is! 🙂

LAST WEEK:

I didn’t get much time to sew during the week, so I took some time during the weekend to finish my Joyful Meadows Quilt top! My original Joyful Meadows Quilt was made with all solids and someone asked me if I ever make quilts with prints. It has been awhile since I’ve made one with prints, so I wanted to share with you all what this quilt would like in some prints. I had been saving these Cotton and Steel fabrics for a few years, and I thought these would be perfect for this quilt! I love how it turned out!

THIS WEEKS GOALS:

My goal this week is to hopefully finish quilting my Rainier Echoes Large Throw quilt. It is so close to being done!! I think if I just focus on this quilt, it may be doable!

LIVE CHECK IN VIDEO:

I will be filming my LIVE Check in video tomorrow Dec 15th at 2pm PST in the Facebook Quilt Along group!

HOW TO PARTICIPATE:

You can choose to work 10 minutes a day, 1 hour a week, 5 hours a week. It’s up to you!!

Finish Those UFQs 2020 – Week 5

It’s the start of Week 5 of Finish those UFQs 2020 Challenge! Did you make some progress last week? I thought I would post a day early this week, since my Joyful Meadows Quilt pattern will be releasing tomorrow! 🙂

You can download the FREE project tracker here:

LAST WEEK:

I decided to cut into a stack of fabric to make a second Joyful Meadows quilt! I know…I know, I really shouldn’t be starting new projects. But I just HAD TO DO IT!! haha I’ve started sewing all the pieces together.

But I did set aside a few hours to work on my Rainier Echoes Quilt I had left off on 6 months ago. I had spray basted this quilt and started quilting it during it’s quilt along, but had go side tracked on other projects.

So I realized, you shouldn’t let a quilt sit for too long after spray basting. I ended up needing to pull up parts of the top and re-spray it. So after I got it re-basted, I was able start quilting it again!
I am using the seams as a guide and outlining the design. I love using my hera marker and rule to help me fill in the empty spaces.

THIS WEEKS GOALS:

I want to finish my Red/Navy/Blue/White Joyful Meadows Quilt top!
I also want to quilt more of my Rainier Echoes quilt….maybe finish the quilting….but that might be pushing it!

LIVE CHECK IN VIDEO:

I will be filming my LIVE Check in video tomorrow Monday Nov. 30th at 2pm PST in the Facebook Quilt Along group!

Have you made any progress this week? I know it can be a busy time for people. Having my kids home for winter break makes it so I have less time to sew. But I’m enjoying spending extra time with them.

This week the kids finished making their Aprons! We had cut them out during their Summer break, other projects got in the way. So we finally finished them up this week. The kids had a lot of fun making these. They picked out their own fabrics and did all the sewing. I helped with ironing and pinning.

We also had some fun making some bread from scratch. Our first loaf didn’t turn out too good. So we tried again an our results were much better! I love baking in the winter time and it fills your house with yummy smells!

This week I found some time to baste and quilt my baby size Left The Nest Quilt! I love using spray baste. It makes the basting step go way faster! I used Sulky KK 200 Temporary Spray. I love that there isn’t any overspray left on my tile floor.

I decided to go with a large zig zag pattern for the quilting. I used my seams as a guild. I quilted about 1/2 inch from all the top flying geese. Then I started quilting in between each of those lines to make the lines all about 1 3/4 inches apart.

The last project I worked on this week was my new quilt pattern the Flower Party Quilt! I made some progress and am close to having some blocks done! Yay!!

Finish Those UFQs 2020!
Since we will be postponing the next quilt along in my quilt along until probably March of 2020. I’ve decided to extend the Finish those UFQs into January of 2020! Yay! More time to get our boxes checked off our list!

You can continue with your current list, or you can print off and new one and start fresh for the New Year!

This week I was so happy to finish up my Happy Block Swap Quilt! It’s been pouring outside, so I haven’t been able to get a full shot of the quilt. Once the rain lets up I’ll take one.

You can find the FREE PDF block patterns here!

I love how the floral binding looks on this quilt! It makes me want to use floral binding more often!

I started working on my NEW Quilt Pattern, the Flower Party Quilt. I’m using these gorgeous Road Trip fabrics designed by Alison Glass for Andover Fabrics.

My goals for this week is to complete some of the Flower Party blocks. Also, I would like to baste and quilt my baby size Left The Nest Quilt! My kids start winter break tomorrow, so I’m going to need to manage my time wisely to get some sewing time in!

Welcome to WEEK 7 of the Finish Those UFQs challenge!! I hope you are making great progress on your lists!

This week I finished my Happy Flower Garden Quilt!! I had made this quilt top during the Quilt Along in 2018. It feels good to check this one completely off my list!! It’s been super overcast and rainy here in Western Washington this past week, so I haven’t had a chance to take a full length photo yet.

Next up this week was finishing the quilting on my Happy Block Swap Quilt. I decided to go with a slight wave from top to bottom, then I echoed that way arrows the quilt in 1 inch lines. I didn’t have much quilting left to do, so I was also able to make the binding, attach it to the front and I started hand sewing it to the back.

Next week my goal is to finish the binding on the Happy Block Swap Quilt.
I would also like to get my baby size Left the Nest quilt basted and quilted!

I received the background fabric in the mail for my next Quilt Pattern, I think I’m going to call it Flower Party Quilt! I’m really excited to share this one with you all. It might be a contender for the next quilt along that will start in January 2020!

I’m using Wasabi by Kona Cotton for the background and the main colors will be this gorgeous Road Trip fabric by Alison Glass.

This past week, I decided to go with scrappy binding for my Cloudy Day Quilt Sampler! And I’m so happy I did! I’m loving how it is looking so far. I made my binding on Monday, sewed it to the front of the quilt Tuesday and then started hand sewing the binding to the back of the quilt on Thursday. I’m hoping to have this finished soon!

Find the FREE Cloudy Day Quilt Sampler Pattern HERE!

I also sewed the binding onto my stack of pot holders, next I need I need to finish sewing the loops. Then I can hand stitch the binding to the backs.
