Finish Those UFQs 2020 – Week 7

Good Morning it’s WEEK 7 of our Finish Those UFQs 2020 challenge!! We only have a few more weeks left in this year, it sure has gone by fast. I’m hoping to chip away at my list some more so I can make room for some new projects in the new year!

If you haven’t downloaded the FREE Quilt Project tracker, here it is! πŸ™‚

LAST WEEK:

I didn’t get much time to sew during the week, so I took some time during the weekend to finish my Joyful Meadows Quilt top! My original Joyful Meadows Quilt was made with all solids and someone asked me if I ever make quilts with prints. It has been awhile since I’ve made one with prints, so I wanted to share with you all what this quilt would like in some prints. I had been saving these Cotton and Steel fabrics for a few years, and I thought these would be perfect for this quilt! I love how it turned out!

THIS WEEKS GOALS:

My goal this week is to hopefully finish quilting my Rainier Echoes Large Throw quilt. It is so close to being done!! I think if I just focus on this quilt, it may be doable!

LIVE CHECK IN VIDEO:

I will be filming my LIVE Check in video tomorrow Dec 15th at 2pm PST in the Facebook Quilt Along group!

HOW TO PARTICIPATE:

You can choose to work 10 minutes a day, 1 hour a week, 5 hours a week. It’s up to you!!

Cobalt Canyon Quilt Pattern

Cobalt Canyon Quilt 3

The Summer time always reminds me of camping and going to the Mountains. When designing this quilt pattern I was trying to echo a geometric design on both corners of the quilt. When I stood back and looked, this design looked like to mountain ranges with a canyon in between. This is where the name Cobalt Canyon Quilt came from.

I have been wanting to make beginner friendly quilt for awhile and this quilt is great for beginners! It is made up of squares and rectangles. So it goes together super quickly!

The pattern comes with directions for a Baby, Throw, Twin, Queen and King size quilt.

I remembered there was a super cute line of fabric called Hello Bear designed by Bonnie Christine for Art Gallery Fabrics. This line has been around for a while and I have always wanted to use it. I thought it would be perfect for a baby boy quilt. I bought my fabric at Stash Fabrics. They had all the ones I wanted!!

I decided to quilt this about 5/8 in from each mountain top seam.

For binding, I love using a dark color. So it frames the quilt. One of my favorites is navy…I may have used navy on too many quilts, but I love it! So I say use what you love.
And isn’t that backing fabric too cute!!!!

I hope you love this design as much as I do!! I would love to see your versions! Make sure to tag me in your photo or use the hashtag #HappyCloudCreations

WEEK 1 – Rainier Echoes Quilt Along – Cutting our Fabric

WEEK 1 rainier echoes

WEEK 1 – Cutting our Fabric

Welcome to WEEK 1 of the Rainier Echoes Quilt Along! This week we will be cutting out all of our pieces! You can stay organized by labeling your pieces. I usually write the color and size on a little piece of paper and pin it to the fabric stack. You could also use label stickers!

I don’t pre-wash my fabric. But if you want to that is totally fine. Make sure you have purchased a little extra fabric to account for fabric shrinkage and any fraying.

Make sure to iron out any wrinkles before you start cutting your fabric.

A sharp rotary blade, cutting mat and 6 x 24 inch ruler are very helpful when cutting.

This quilt pattern will be 25% OFF thru April 7th (The quilt along start date). After April 7th, the quilt pattern will be 15% OFF thru the end of the quilt along.

I had drawn this pattern out in the beginning of Summer, but with the kids being home and all the Summer activities, I didn’t get a chance to actually make the quilt until the kids when back to school.

I was scrolling through Stash Fabrics Sale section (not sponsored, just love their deals) and found the gorgeous Freshly Picked fabric and I had to have it. I had been wanting to use this fabric collection for a long time, and now I finally had the perfect pattern for it. They didn’t have the whole line, so I grabed a couple prints from Fabric.com (not sponsored)

IMG_7492 (3)

I used 1/4 yard cuts from my quilt, but you can also used Fat Quarters are scraps that are large enough!

If I have to piece the backing on a quilt, I will usually go for a solid fabric or a sheet. But this gorgeous fabric was calling to be on the back!

I went with quick and easy straight line quilting for this one. And I bound it in a beautiful blue fabric from the Freshly picked line.
