When I was first drawing up my KaBam Quilt Pattern I was trying to design an explosion from a comic book. So hence the name KaBam! I drew this up probably a year ago and was hoping to make a King size quilt eventually for my bed.

When I found out my sister in law was having a boy and the babies room was going to be star/galaxy/star wars theme. I thought this design would be perfect for his room! The parents said they liked the dark side. So for them it is a planet exploding from a Death Star. But I also think it looks like a huge star.

I went searching in the Stash Fabrics store to find the perfect fabrics.
Blue (Background) – Figo Fabrics – Shooting stars in Blue
Red – Gingiber –Blizzard in Berry
Red/Orange – Alison Glass – Cross stitch Tiger
Orange – Robert Kaufman Fabrics – Zest in Cedar
Dark Yellow – Dear Stella – Dash Flow in Amber
Bright Yellow –Dear Stella – Moonscape in Banana

I wanted to pick an ombre of colors for the star/explosion.

IMG_8067

I used Warm and Plush cotton batting to make it a little more poofy. For the quilting I decided to outline the star/explosion. Then in the dead space I echoed the shape out every 1 3/4 inches. This gave the quilt great texture and a cool design in the dead space.

For the backing fabric I found this super cute star fabric by P&B Textiles – Winter Lights Star Dot Blue/Navy Fabric

The binding is half of the Dark Yellow and half of the Bright yellow.

I love how it turned out and was so happy to give this one to my new nephew.

Week 2: Finish Those UFQs 2021

It’s been 1 week since we started the Finish Those UFQs 2021 challenge! Did you download the FREE Quilt Project tracker? Did you write a list of all the quilts you want to finish? Did you make any progress on your list?

You can download the tracker here if you haven’t yet:

LAST WEEK

My goal last week was to finish hand sewing the binding on my KaBam Quilt. I had started making this quilt in March 2020. Once the top was finished, I got sidetracked with new quilt projects. Then I was trying to finish it during the 2020 Finish Those UFQs challenge….but I got side tracked when the Joyful Meadows quilt along got started and never finished sewing the binding on. I’m happy to say I finally finished this one! Yay!!

THIS WEEKS GOAL

My goal is to baste and quilt my baby size Plaid’N Perky Quilt. I think this one would look good with straight line, top to bottom quilting. This is how I quilted my throw size. This will go pretty quick, so maybe I’ll be able to start working on the binding also.

HOW TO JOIN

  • Print the project tracker
  • List all of your unfinished quilts on the project tracker
  • post your weekly progress in the Facebook Group or on Instagram with the hashtag #FinishThoseUFQs2021

JOIN ME for the LIVE Check in Chat over in my Happy Cloud Creations Quilt Along Group at 7 PM PDT on Tuesday May 4th. I’ll add the video to this blog after it’s been filmed.

Finish Those UFQs 2021 Challenge schedule:
April 27th – Week 1 – Write out your list
May 4th – Week 2
May 11th – Week 3
May 18th – Week 4
May 25th – Week 5
June 1st – Week 6
June 8th – Week 7
June 15th – Week 8

I’m excited to see how much progress we can make!!

Finish Those UFQs 2020 – Week 9

Good Morning! It’s week 9 of the Finish Those UFQs 2020 Challenge! It’s the last week of the year. I can’t believe this year went so fast. I’m hoping 2021 will be a better year for everyone!

I hope you were able to make some progress on your unfinished quilts! Just because this challenge is over, doesn’t mean you can’t keep working on your lists! I didn’t get as much check off the list this year as I had hope. With the doing school from home, this year has been way different than any year before. I’m hoping to finish my list before the end of 2021!

You can download the FREE quilt project tracker here:

LAST WEEK:
I did it! I finished my Rainier Echoes Quilt! It feels good to check a quilt off the list. I’m happy I decided to quilt it by outlining the design. I love the texture and extra design element it gives it.

THIS WEEKS GOALS:
As I look at my list, the next step for all of my quilts is basting. Basting is my least favorite part of quilting. So that is one reason I have a pile of quilt tops. So I just need to decide with one to go for. I’m out of spray baste, so I need to either order a curbside pick up order or go with pin basting…. decisions decisions! You know, I hate making decisions.
I have 5 quilts left on the list, 4 are throw size and 1 is a baby size. If my Joyful Meadows quilt backing is in my mail box, I will do that one. If not, I think I will work on my throw size KaBam Quilt.

LIVE CHECK IN VIDEO:

I will be filming my LIVE Check in video today (12/28/2020) at 10 am PST in the Facebook Quilt Along group!

HOW TO PARTICIPATE:

You can choose to work 10 minutes a day, 1 hour a week, 5 hours a week. It’s up to you!!

Let’s Finish Those UFQs 2020!

So it’s that time of year that I start looking a my ever growing pile of unfinished quilts and decide, hey I need to finish those!! I know I’m not alone….I’m talking to you! A lot of quilters are SO excited to start a new quilt, their previous quilt tops get thrown into a pile.

Last year I had set up a Finish Those UFQs Challenge in my quilt along group. I thought it might be fun to do it again this year! I know it helped motivate me to finish some of my quilts. I hope it helped you too!! This year I’ve made a PDF Quilt Project tracker with 20 spots for projects (5 more slots that last years pdf). If you have more than 20 unfinished quilts, just print more than one sheet!

You can download the FREE Quilt Project Tracker here

To accomplish my goal, I plan to spend at least 1 to 2 hour each week on my UFQ’s. This way I can still work on new projects, but I’m still chipping away at my unfinished pile.

Last year I had 8 quilts on my list to finish. This year I only have 6…that may be because I haven’t been sewing as much this year. Since the pandemic hit and the kids have been home, its harder to find time to sew. I have 2 quilts on my list this year that were on last years list. Hopefully I can get most of these finished!

#1 Rainier Echoes Quilt – This quilt is basted and partially quilted.

#2 Starlight Mountains Quilt – This quilt needs basting, quilting and binding done. You can download this pattern for FREE!

#3 KaBam Quilt – This one needs basting, quilting and binding.

#4 Colorful Tiles Quilt – This one needs basting, quilting and binding.

#5 Stepping Stone Quilt – needs blocks put together, basting, quilting and binding.

#6 Joyful Meadows Quilt (Pattern will be released November 30th!) The top needs to be finished, basted, quilted and bound.

Finish Those UFQs: Spring and Summer Edition!

I have been thinking about what I should work on next. I just finished releasing my Plaid’N Perky Quilt Pattern. I had thought about doing another quilt along in the group, but my kids are staying home and doing remote learning for the rest of this school year. I decided I don’t think I will have the time or energy to host a quilt along.

I really want to be productive this Spring and Summer. So I thought to motivate me and motivate you, we could do an early ‘Finish those UFQs’ Spring Summer edition! I usually do one of these in November. But I thought it may be fun to do it early this year.

I’m sure I’m not the only one needing to work on some older projects! So, download the FREE Project tracker and join in the fun of finishing some quilts! If you still have your project tracker from the last Finish Those UFQs, you can keep working on that. Or you can download this new one that now has a spot for ‘Backing Ready’.

HOW TO JOIN

  • Print the project tracker
  • List all of your unfinished quilts on the project tracker
  • post your weekly progress in the Facebook Group or on Instagram with the hashtag #FinishThoseUFQs2021

Each week I’ll share a blog post and jump on a LIVE video in the group to share my progress with you and chat!

I’m excited to see how much progress we can make!!
Happy Quilting!
Andrea
