I had drawn out a new pattern for my daughter Snow, so I was planning on making her a quilt. But, I thought I should make my son a quilt first, since he is older. I made him a Twin size quilt for his bed 7 years ago. So, I thought I’d make him a throw size this time, but he said Twin size is better.
I had been playing around with this plaid design for a while, trying to decide what size block. I settled on the 10 inch finished block, because it resulted in the best finished size quilt. I thought this pattern would be perfect for Cloud and he loved it. He helped me pick out the name Pleasantly Plaid and he went searching online for the perfect fabrics for his quilt.
You can make this pattern using 2 main colors, 6 main colors, Scrappy using Fat Quarters and Super Duper Scrappy. You can also use layer cakes and charm packs!!
The pattern comes with directions for a Baby, Lap, Throw, Twin, Queen and King size quilt!
FABRICS USED:
A (1) – Windham Fabrics- Lofi Zig Zag Indigo,
A (2) – Dear Stella – Dash Flow – Riviera,
A (3) – PBS Fabrics – Over the Rainbow Clouds Light Blue,
B (1) – Maywood Studio- Kimberbell Basics Linen Texture Green,
B (2) – Dear Stella Moonscape Kiwi,
B (3) – Windham Fabrics – Foundation Hexagon in Grass,
C – Andover Fabrics – Bumble Bee Basics Rain White and
D – Andover Fabrics – Bumble Bee Basics Ripple Black.

I love the fabrics he ended up choosing! They are perfect for him. He loved the geometric, print on prints, but not too busy. And of course, he had to pick a cloud print since his name is Cloud.

I decided to use the Warm and Natural batting, because that is what my local Joann fabrics had. I do prefer the Warm and Plush, but I wanted to get this done quickly.
I love using 505 spray baste, because it helps the basting process go much faster!
And we chose an Ultra Soft flat sheet from Target for the backing. He’s twin on his bed has this and its super soft and is durable.

For the quilting, I followed the plaid lines, and stitched about a 1/4 inch from the seams. I also stitched about 1/4 inch from the edges of the blocks. Giving the quilt a checkered quilting look.

I bound the quilt in the black to give it a nice dark frame! I love how it turned out and Cloud loves it too, which is most important!
I love how quick and easy this quilt was to make! I made a Lap size top in about 3 days with left over fabrics from my Lovely Star Garden quilt.
