Week 9: Finish Those UFQs 2021

It’s Week 9 of the Finish those unfinished Quilts 2021 challenge! I hope you’ve been able to make some progress on your list.

You can download the FREE Quilt Project tracker here:

LAST WEEK

I finished my scrappy baby size Butterflies and Blooms Quilt top! This pattern will be in my shop July 13, 2021!
It’s a 16 inch block quilt that can be made scrappy using fat quarters or you can make it using 6 main colors (3 for the Butterflies and 3 for the Blooms) with a background fabric.

While I am waiting for my backing fabric to arrive in the mail, I decided to work on my Colorful Tiles Quilt. I finished the making the backing, I basted and got about half of the quilting done. I went with ‘organic’ straight lines from the top to the bottom.

I quilted lines 1/2 inch from the seams with my walking foot. Then I measured 1 1/2 inch from those quilting lines, so I would have 2 additional lines down the center of the blocks.

THIS WEEKS GOALS

Since I’m working on the last quilt on my list, I think this will probably be my last week working on my UFQs list! Woohoo! My goal is to finish quilting my Colorful Tiles quilt and bind it.

I’m also hoping to start on a throw size Butterflies and Blooms Quilt. I should be getting the fabric I ordered in a couple days.

It’s Week 8 of the finish those UFQs 2021 challenge! Have you made progress on your list?

LAST WEEK

Last week I was able to finish quilting and binding my Huge Stepping Stone quilt! It ended up being 85 x 85 inches. I tried getting a good photo outside…but I am short, this is me standing on a step stool. Snow was my photographer. This one is going to be perfect for snuggling on the couch.

The last 7 week’s I’d been focusing on older projected and I only have 1 quilt left on my UFQs list, so I decided I could take a tiny break from the WIPs and start a new quilt pattern! I’m hoping to share this design with you all soon!

NEXT WEEKS GOALS

My goal this week is to finish my top for my NEW Pattern!

I’m also hoping to work on my last quilt on my UFQs list! I stopped working on this Colorful Tiles quilt once it became a top in March of 2017. I needs the backing made, basting, quilting and binding done.

Week 7: Finish Those UFQs 2021

We are starting the 7th week of working on our unfinished quilts. I’m so happy I’m getting some of my older quilts finished. I can’t believe I only have 2 left on my list! Have you made some time to work on your older unfinished quilts?

You can download the FREE Quilt Project tracker here:

LAST WEEK:

My goal was to work on my Stepping Stone quilt! I finished the top, basted and started quilting this 85 x 85 inch quilt. I realized this is the largest quilt I’ve made so far.

So I decided to quilt it with straight lines diagonally, both directions to make a criss-cross pattern. I used my Hera marker to mark out my lines, using the squares and the 45 degree line on my ruler to help mark out my lines.

This was my first time quilting diagonally, and I’m loving how it’s turning out. It’s keeping very little bulk in my small throat machine.

THIS WEEKS GOALS:

This week my goal is to finish quilting this Stepping Stone quilt and start working on the binding! I actually made the binding strips last week. So I’ll be all ready to bind when I’m done quilting.

I’m also hoping to cut out the fabric for my Next Quilt Pattern! I had purchased a ton of these Atrium fabrics by Joel Dewberry, when purchasing fabrics for my daughters twin size quilt. I made it a few years back. I’m really trying to use up my fabric stash this year, so I think these will work perfectly. You can make this new pattern with 6 main colors and a background or it’s Fat Quarter(or 1/3 yard cut) friendly.

I am almost done binding this one. I only have half of one side left!

Finish Those UFQs 2020 – Week 7

Good Morning it’s WEEK 7 of our Finish Those UFQs 2020 challenge!! We only have a few more weeks left in this year, it sure has gone by fast. I’m hoping to chip away at my list some more so I can make room for some new projects in the new year!

If you haven’t downloaded the FREE Quilt Project tracker, here it is! 🙂

LAST WEEK:

I didn’t get much time to sew during the week, so I took some time during the weekend to finish my Joyful Meadows Quilt top! My original Joyful Meadows Quilt was made with all solids and someone asked me if I ever make quilts with prints. It has been awhile since I’ve made one with prints, so I wanted to share with you all what this quilt would like in some prints. I had been saving these Cotton and Steel fabrics for a few years, and I thought these would be perfect for this quilt! I love how it turned out!

THIS WEEKS GOALS:

My goal this week is to hopefully finish quilting my Rainier Echoes Large Throw quilt. It is so close to being done!! I think if I just focus on this quilt, it may be doable!

LIVE CHECK IN VIDEO:

I will be filming my LIVE Check in video tomorrow Dec 15th at 2pm PST in the Facebook Quilt Along group!

HOW TO PARTICIPATE:

You can choose to work 10 minutes a day, 1 hour a week, 5 hours a week. It’s up to you!!

Finish Those UFQs 2020 – Week 5

It’s the start of Week 5 of Finish those UFQs 2020 Challenge! Did you make some progress last week? I thought I would post a day early this week, since my Joyful Meadows Quilt pattern will be releasing tomorrow! 🙂

You can download the FREE project tracker here:

LAST WEEK:

I decided to cut into a stack of fabric to make a second Joyful Meadows quilt! I know…I know, I really shouldn’t be starting new projects. But I just HAD TO DO IT!! haha I’ve started sewing all the pieces together.

But I did set aside a few hours to work on my Rainier Echoes Quilt I had left off on 6 months ago. I had spray basted this quilt and started quilting it during it’s quilt along, but had go side tracked on other projects.

So I realized, you shouldn’t let a quilt sit for too long after spray basting. I ended up needing to pull up parts of the top and re-spray it. So after I got it re-basted, I was able start quilting it again!
I am using the seams as a guide and outlining the design. I love using my hera marker and rule to help me fill in the empty spaces.

THIS WEEKS GOALS:

I want to finish my Red/Navy/Blue/White Joyful Meadows Quilt top!
I also want to quilt more of my Rainier Echoes quilt….maybe finish the quilting….but that might be pushing it!

LIVE CHECK IN VIDEO:

I will be filming my LIVE Check in video tomorrow Monday Nov. 30th at 2pm PST in the Facebook Quilt Along group!

Finish Those UFQs 2020 -Week 3

Yay! It’s WEEK 3 of the Finish those UFQs! Did you make any progress last week?

Last week I was able to baste and start quilting on my Joyful Meadows Quilt! I love using spray baste because it keeps all the layers stuck together. I used a mixture of Sulky Temporary spray and Spray and Bond Basting Adhesive, because that’s what I had on hand.

I did a quick and easy outline the design type of quilting. I lined my walking foot up with the edge of my seam and followed it. I have completed the center and just need to work on the outer blocks!

I also worked on finishing up some pot holders, which aren’t on my list, but they are in my pile of to finish.

THIS WEEKS GOALS: This week I want to finish quilting this and finish the binding! I need to order paper patterns on Nov. 23rd, so I better get busy!

HOW TO PARTICIPATE:

You can choose to work 10 minutes a day, 1 hour a week, 5 hours a week. It’s up to you!!

Finish Those UFQs 2020 – Week 2

We have finished our first week of the Finish Those UFQs 2020 challenge! Did you print out your list? Did you make any progress on your old projects?

You can download the FREE Project tracker Here:

My goal is to spend a couple hours (at least) a week on my older projects and then that will still leave me some time to work on new things also. Because its so hard not starting new projects!

Last week I finished my Joyful Meadows Quilt top! This pattern will be in my shop November 30th! This week I hope to get it basting and quilted! I’m going to use a Red marker on my list this month and a purple marker on my list next month to see how much I am accomplishing since I started this challenge!

I founds some beautiful Rainbow Stars Hearts fabric by Andover Fabrics. I think this will be the perfect backing to this quilt!

You can choose to work 10 minutes a day, 1 hour a week, 5 hours a week. It’s up to you!!

Welcome to the WEEK 14 of the Finish Those UFQs challenge! Did you make a lot of progress last week?

It’s not too late to download your FREE Quilt project tracker here: Finish Those UFOs

Last week I had spent all of my time working on my quilt for my new nephew due to arrive March 1st. His family baby shower was on Saturday and I wanted to gift it then.

The baby’s room is star/galaxy/star wars theme. The parents said they liked the dark side. I had a designed drawn up awhile ago that seemed perfect for this little guy! The pattern will be called KaBam (release date late March)! So for them it would be a planet exploding from a Death Star. But I also think it looks like a huge star.

Fabrics:
Blue (Background) – Figo Fabrics – Shooting stars in Blue
Red – Gingiber –Blizzard in Berry
Red/Orange – Alison Glass – Cross stitch Tiger
Orange – Robert Kaufman Fabrics – Zest in Cedar
Dark Yellow – Dear Stella – Dash Flow in Amber
Bright Yellow –Dear Stella – Moonscape in Banana

fabric (2)

I wanted to pick an ombre of colors for the star/explosion.

IMG_8067

I used Warm and Plush cotton batting to make it a little more poofy. For the quilting I decided to outline the star/explosion. Then in the dead space I echoed the shape out every 1 3/4 inches. This gave the quilt great texture and a cool design in the dead space.

IMG_8079 (2)

For the backing fabric I found this super cute star fabric by P&B Textiles – Winter Lights Star Dot Blue/Navy Fabric

The binding is half of the Dark Yellow and half of the Bright yellow.

IMG_8071 (2)

I love how it turned out and can’t wait to meet my nephew and see him snuggling in it!

I hoping to finish writing up this pattern and have it release late March 2020.

Goals for this week!
Last week was the last week I had planned on focusing on finishing my UFQs. Next week I will have small bowel resection surgery to removed damaged portions of my intestines from my Crohn’s disease. So I will be out of commission for several weeks recovering. I’m hoping to finish my last 2 quilts on my Finish Those UFQs list once I have recovered from my surgery, in March.
So this week I need to work on things around the house and work on my tax return!

Feel free to keep posting your progress and your finished UFQs in my Facebook Quilt Along Group: Happy Cloud Creations Quilt Alongs!

Happy Quilting!

This week I’ve been focusing on finishing my Flower Party Quilt! Saturday I was able to finish sewing the borders on.

Then Sunday rolled around and my Crohn’s disease started acting up again. I was diagnosed in 2008 with Crohn’s disease. It’s an auto immune disease that causes inflammation, ulcers and scar tissue in your intestines. I’ve have a couple sections of intestines with a lot of scar tissue, so sometimes these areas close off and become blocked. That’s what happened Sunday. Thankfully the blockage didn’t last a long time, but recovering from a blockage takes awhile. It’s like a bruise so it’s very painful days after the blockage happens and it zaps all my energy because I can’t eat any food during the blockage and have to only drink liquids for a few days after.

Thankfully on Thursday I had enough energy to wake up early and baste my Flower Party Quilt!

Goals for This Week!

I plan on quilting and binding the Flower party quilt! Then I can take photographs for the cover photo of the quilt pattern and order some paper patterns! The release date of this pattern is set for January 28, 2020. I’m hoping I can still make this release date with being delayed in finishing my quilt.

I hope you are making lots of progress on your list!!
