When I was first drawing up my KaBam Quilt Pattern I was trying to design an explosion from a comic book. So hence the name KaBam! I drew this up probably a year ago and was hoping to make a King size quilt eventually for my bed.

When I found out my sister in law was having a boy and the babies room was going to be star/galaxy/star wars theme. I thought this design would be perfect for his room! The parents said they liked the dark side. So for them it is a planet exploding from a Death Star. But I also think it looks like a huge star.

I went searching in the Stash Fabrics store to find the perfect fabrics.
Blue (Background) – Figo Fabrics – Shooting stars in Blue
Red – Gingiber –Blizzard in Berry
Red/Orange – Alison Glass – Cross stitch Tiger
Orange – Robert Kaufman Fabrics – Zest in Cedar
Dark Yellow – Dear Stella – Dash Flow in Amber
Bright Yellow –Dear Stella – Moonscape in Banana

I wanted to pick an ombre of colors for the star/explosion.

I used Warm and Plush cotton batting to make it a little more poofy. For the quilting I decided to outline the star/explosion. Then in the dead space I echoed the shape out every 1 3/4 inches. This gave the quilt great texture and a cool design in the dead space.

For the backing fabric I found this super cute star fabric by P&B Textiles – Winter Lights Star Dot Blue/Navy Fabric

The binding is half of the Dark Yellow and half of the Bright yellow.

Welcome to the WEEK 14 of the Finish Those UFQs challenge! Did you make a lot of progress last week?

It’s not too late to download your FREE Quilt project tracker here: Finish Those UFOs

Last week I had spent all of my time working on my quilt for my new nephew due to arrive March 1st. His family baby shower was on Saturday and I wanted to gift it then.

The baby’s room is star/galaxy/star wars theme. The parents said they liked the dark side. I had a designed drawn up awhile ago that seemed perfect for this little guy! The pattern will be called KaBam (release date late March)! So for them it would be a planet exploding from a Death Star. But I also think it looks like a huge star.

Fabrics:
Blue (Background) – Figo Fabrics – Shooting stars in Blue
Red – Gingiber –Blizzard in Berry
Red/Orange – Alison Glass – Cross stitch Tiger
Orange – Robert Kaufman Fabrics – Zest in Cedar
Dark Yellow – Dear Stella – Dash Flow in Amber
Bright Yellow –Dear Stella – Moonscape in Banana

I love how it turned out and can’t wait to meet my nephew and see him snuggling in it!

I hoping to finish writing up this pattern and have it release late March 2020.

Goals for this week!
Last week was the last week I had planned on focusing on finishing my UFQs. Next week I will have small bowel resection surgery to removed damaged portions of my intestines from my Crohn’s disease. So I will be out of commission for several weeks recovering. I’m hoping to finish my last 2 quilts on my Finish Those UFQs list once I have recovered from my surgery, in March.
So this week I need to work on things around the house and work on my tax return!

Feel free to keep posting your progress and your finished UFQs in my Facebook Quilt Along Group: Happy Cloud Creations Quilt Alongs!

Happy Quilting!
Andrea
