Butterflies and Blooms Quilt Pattern

My Butterflies and Blooms Quilt Pattern is now available in my shop!

Digital (USA)
Digital (International Customers)
Paper Patterns (USA)

This pattern was originally going to be two separate block patterns, but the more I thought about it, it just seemed right to put these two beautiful blocks together in the same quilt.

This is a 16 inch block quilt! This is my favorite size blocks. You can make a beautiful large block with out having super tiny pieces.

The pattern comes with directions for a Baby (48 x 48 in), Lap (48 x 64 in), Throw (64 x 80 in), Double (80 x 96 in), Queen (96 x 112 in) and King (112 x 112 in). If you would like to make a Twin size, I’d recommend making the Throw and adding a small border.

This pattern is great for the adventurous beginner to intermediate quilter.

This pattern comes with cutting instructions to make it scrappy/fat quarter friendly or you can making it using 6 main fabrics (3 for the Butterflies and 3 for the Blooms) with a background fabric.

My first quilt I made the baby size using the scrappy/fat quarter friendly directions. I went digging through my fabric bins and found a ton of this Atrium fabric by Joel Dewberry for Free Spirit Fabrics. I had made my daughter a twin size quilt using these fabrics and loved them so much, I bought way too much extra.

I was excited to find out I had plenty of these fabrics to make a baby size quilt.

I found a Kona cotton blue that was very close the the blue on the front for my backing fabric. I decided to try a new quilting style. I did organic wavy lines from the top to the bottom using my walking foot. I have been wanting to try this for a while, but was worried it would not turn out how I had envisioned it. I’m so happy with how it turned out. I would definitely try this on another quilt.

Next up, I’m making a throw size quilt using the 6 main fabrics cutting directions. I have been wanting to buy these Mountain Meadows fabrics for a long time and I thought these would be perfect for this quilt.

I hope you love this design as much as I loved making this quilt! I’m so excited to see your versions. Make sure to tag me when you are posting your photos on social media!

I’m done – Finish Those UFQs 2021

Woohoo! I finished ALL of my quilts on my 2021 Finish Those UFQs list! I hope you were able to make some progress on you list, and I hope you are motivated to continue working on those unfinished quilts.

You can download the FREE Quilt Project tracker here:

LAST WEEK

My Goal was to finish my throw size Colorful Tiles Quilt and I did it! This was my last quilt on my unfinished quilts list. I started it in 2017! I can’t believe I finished all of them….well this doesn’t count the stack of pot holders, half made coffee cozies and pillow covers. But that’s a whole different list.

I decided to make a scrappy binding for this quilt with the left over scraps. Thankfully I had enough to bind this quilt. I love the look of a scrappy binding!

FUTURE GOALS

My goal going forward is to finish a quilt after I finish the top! I got my backing fabric in the mail for my baby size Butterflies and Blooms Quilt (in my shop July 13th). So I’m hoping to baste, quilt and bind that before I start making the throw size Butterflies and Booms quilt.

The fabric I ordered for the Throw size arrived yesterday! They are from the Mountain Meadow collection by Pipa Shaw for Figo fabrics. I bought most of mine from Beyond the Bolt and Blooms in teal from CatesSewModern on Etsy.
The background fabric is Ice Frappe by Kona Cotton, I bought this from Stash Fabrics.

I’m really excited to sew this version up!

Week 9: Finish Those UFQs 2021

It’s Week 9 of the Finish those unfinished Quilts 2021 challenge! I hope you’ve been able to make some progress on your list.

You can download the FREE Quilt Project tracker here:

LAST WEEK

I finished my scrappy baby size Butterflies and Blooms Quilt top! This pattern will be in my shop July 13, 2021!
It’s a 16 inch block quilt that can be made scrappy using fat quarters or you can make it using 6 main colors (3 for the Butterflies and 3 for the Blooms) with a background fabric.

While I am waiting for my backing fabric to arrive in the mail, I decided to work on my Colorful Tiles Quilt. I finished the making the backing, I basted and got about half of the quilting done. I went with ‘organic’ straight lines from the top to the bottom.

I quilted lines 1/2 inch from the seams with my walking foot. Then I measured 1 1/2 inch from those quilting lines, so I would have 2 additional lines down the center of the blocks.

THIS WEEKS GOALS

Since I’m working on the last quilt on my list, I think this will probably be my last week working on my UFQs list! Woohoo! My goal is to finish quilting my Colorful Tiles quilt and bind it.

I’m also hoping to start on a throw size Butterflies and Blooms Quilt. I should be getting the fabric I ordered in a couple days.

Week 8: Finish Those UFQs 2021

It’s Week 8 of the finish those UFQs 2021 challenge! Have you made progress on your list?

LAST WEEK

Last week I was able to finish quilting and binding my Huge Stepping Stone quilt! It ended up being 85 x 85 inches. I tried getting a good photo outside…but I am short, this is me standing on a step stool. Snow was my photographer. This one is going to be perfect for snuggling on the couch.

The last 7 week’s I’d been focusing on older projected and I only have 1 quilt left on my UFQs list, so I decided I could take a tiny break from the WIPs and start a new quilt pattern! I’m hoping to share this design with you all soon!

NEXT WEEKS GOALS

My goal this week is to finish my top for my NEW Pattern!

I’m also hoping to work on my last quilt on my UFQs list! I stopped working on this Colorful Tiles quilt once it became a top in March of 2017. I needs the backing made, basting, quilting and binding done.

Week 7: Finish Those UFQs 2021

We are starting the 7th week of working on our unfinished quilts. I’m so happy I’m getting some of my older quilts finished. I can’t believe I only have 2 left on my list! Have you made some time to work on your older unfinished quilts?

You can download the FREE Quilt Project tracker here:

LAST WEEK:

My goal was to work on my Stepping Stone quilt! I finished the top, basted and started quilting this 85 x 85 inch quilt. I realized this is the largest quilt I’ve made so far.

So I decided to quilt it with straight lines diagonally, both directions to make a criss-cross pattern. I used my Hera marker to mark out my lines, using the squares and the 45 degree line on my ruler to help mark out my lines.

This was my first time quilting diagonally, and I’m loving how it’s turning out. It’s keeping very little bulk in my small throat machine.

THIS WEEKS GOALS:

This week my goal is to finish quilting this Stepping Stone quilt and start working on the binding! I actually made the binding strips last week. So I’ll be all ready to bind when I’m done quilting.

I’m also hoping to cut out the fabric for my Next Quilt Pattern! I had purchased a ton of these Atrium fabrics by Joel Dewberry, when purchasing fabrics for my daughters twin size quilt. I made it a few years back. I’m really trying to use up my fabric stash this year, so I think these will work perfectly. You can make this new pattern with 6 main colors and a background or it’s Fat Quarter(or 1/3 yard cut) friendly.

Week 6: Finish Those UFQs 2021

It’s week 6 of the Finish Those UFQs challenge! How’s your listing going? I hope you are making some progress. I’m really surprised with how much I’ve already finished!

You can download the FREE Quilt Project tracker here:

LAST WEEK

My goal was to finish quilting and bind my Starlight Mountains quilt! I’m happy to say, this quilt is all finished! I started this quilt during the quilt along in September of 2020. This is a FREE quilt pattern, you can find it HERE!

I quilted this one from top to bottom in a organic straight line 2 inches apart. I used a Warm and White cotton batting, since the quilt has so much white in it.

I found a super cute cotton dot sheet set at Target. It goes perfectly with the top. Then I bound it in a tiny black with with dot fabric. I love how this one turned out!

THIS WEEKS GOALS

I only have 2 quilts left on my list! Woohoo!! I plan on working on my large sized Stepping Stone quilt. I made 4 of the baby size quilts. I plan on sewing them together with strips of fabric. I had started working on this quilt in December of 2016. This is going to be a family snuggle quilt for our couch. It has cloud fabric for my son Cloud and snowflake fabric for my daughter Snow.

Then I am hoping to also baste this quilt and start quilting it.

Week 5: Finish Those UFQs 2021

Welcome to Week 5 of the Finish Those UFQs 2021! I hope you are getting things checked off your list! Sometimes it’s hard to finish older project, when new projects are so much fun. I am really wanting to cut into some new fabric for a new design I have been drawing. But I really want to get another quilt checked off my list first.

You can download the FREE Quilt Project tracker here:

LAST WEEK

I had the goal to was to finish the binding on my Joyful Meadows Quilt, which I did! Yay!

My second goal was to baste and quilt my Starlight Mountains Quilt. I basted it and have gotten 2/3rds of the quilting done.

We spent most of the weekend painting doors, trim, walls and the ceiling in our hallway. So I didn’t have any time to sew. But I’m happy with the progress I made! I marked out the rest of my lines with my hera marker this morning!

THIS WEEKS GOAL

I am hoping to finish the quilting on the above Starlight Mountains Quilt, attach the binding and maybe finish sewing the binding on.

Last week, my goal was to make the backing, baste and quilt my baby size Joyful Meadows quilt. Yay! I was able to check all of those boxes off! I quilted this one by echoing the design. I just lined my walking foot up against the seams and went around and around!

I am almost done binding this one. I only have half of one side left!

LAST WEEK
My goal was to work on my baby size Plaid’N Perky Quilt! I’m so excited to check to some boxes off my listed. I finished the binding on this one last night! So I still need to get a full photo of it outside sometime today. On my last LIVE video in the Facebook Quilt Along group, you all helped me pick the navy colored binding. I love how it turned out!

This quilt was made using fabric from the Wander collection by Joel Dewberry for FreeSpirit Fabrics.

THIS WEEKS GOAL

My goal this week is to get the backing ready, baste and quilt this baby size Joyful Meadows Quilt. I made this top during the Joyful Meadows Quilt along earlier this year. I plan on echoing the design with the quilting. So this will take more time than the quilting on my Plaid’N Perky quilt.

LAST WEEK

My goal last week was to finish hand sewing the binding on my KaBam Quilt. I had started making this quilt in March 2020. Once the top was finished, I got sidetracked with new quilt projects. Then I was trying to finish it during the 2020 Finish Those UFQs challenge….but I got side tracked when the Joyful Meadows quilt along got started and never finished sewing the binding on. I’m happy to say I finally finished this one! Yay!!

THIS WEEKS GOAL

My goal is to baste and quilt my baby size Plaid’N Perky Quilt. I think this one would look good with straight line, top to bottom quilting. This is how I quilted my throw size. This will go pretty quick, so maybe I’ll be able to start working on the binding also.
